How to Install VST Plugins (VST2 & VST3)

1. How to Install VST Plugins (VST2 & VST3)

Step 1: Download the Plugin

After purchasing or downloading your VST plugin from PBSWave, you’ll receive a download link. Click on the link to download the plugin files to your computer.

Step 2: Extract the Files

If the plugin is in a compressed file (like .zip or .rar), you’ll need to extract it. Right-click on the file and choose "Extract Here" or use extraction software like WinRAR or 7-Zip.

Step 3: Place the Plugin in the Correct Folder

After extracting the files, manually move the plugin files into the correct folder based on the VST version:

VST2:

Windows: C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins or C:\VSTPlugins

macOS: Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > VST

VST3:

Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

macOS: Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > VST3

Ensure you place both the plugin file (.dll for VST2 on Windows or .vst3 for VST3) and any accompanying files (such as presets or documentation) into the appropriate folder.

2. How to Add VST Plugins to Your DAW

After installing the plugin, open your DAW (e.g., FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, etc.), and follow these general steps:

1. Open your DAW and navigate to the plugins section.

2. Rescan your plugin folder (if necessary) to allow your DAW to detect newly installed VST plugins.

3. Search for your plugin by name in the DAW’s plugin search or plugin list.

4. Drag the plugin onto a track or use it as an insert in your DAW’s mixer or channel.

Once your VST is detected, it will be ready to use in your projects.

3. Troubleshooting Common VST Plugin Issues

Plugin Not Showing Up?

Double-check that the plugin is in the correct folder for VST2 or VST3. You may need to rescan your plugin folder in your DAW.

Ensure your DAW is set to scan the folder you placed the plugin in. Some DAWs require you to manually add new plugin directories.

Plugin Not Loading or Crashing?

Verify that your DAW supports the VST plugin format you are using (VST2 or VST3).

Check for software updates for both the DAW and the plugin.

Restart your DAW and computer to clear up any temporary issues.
